Theda Bara Vamped through many Fox films. She was born Theodosia
Goodman. The name didn't strike the sexiness that she had on screen.
Her new stage name was simply Theda as a first name and Arab spelled
backwards as a last name. An anagram for Arab Death was the popular
legend for her name. The theme for her "Vamp" series of pictures
centered around the exotic Arab world. This allowed for really
skimpy costumes. Theda Bara once said that she had about 20 costume
changes in "Cleopatra" and if she put them all on at once she still
couldn't keep warm. William Fox was a brilliant showman and Theda
became the first publicity created sex star thanks to his ability to
see how to create a star that was bigger than life. Theda Bara
became a completely new phenomenon, a mass produced celebrity
instantly recognized by millions of people through the images seen
on Fox Theater screens.
Almost all of Theda Bara's films are lost. Oddly enough "A Fool
ThereWas" is not lost and a DVD comes with this camera . Run time 67
minutes.

factory's entire run of cameras. They have special brass inserts set
in the Honduran Mahogany body to allow shrinking and expanding of
