These movements are from the period before sprocket holes were standardized. These movements are what later became film industry standard so they work with modern film. The movements both work smoothly and evenly and transport film without any scratches.

The patent application is from the Williamson's, Colin and James. Remember, they were working in the film industry within the first five years of the invention of  motion pictures and were some of the most important characters in the early industry. These men were the PanaVision, or Aaton or Arriflex company owners of their day. They manufactured great quality cameras that were popular on almost all sets for many years. These cameras were very popular during the American Patent War period, circa 1908-12, as Edison and his Patent Trust Companies didn't have control over Darling or Williamson manufacturing.
