A quote from The United States Cinematograph Company
Company brochure.
"As the pioneer Manufacturers of Motion Picture
Cameras and Studio equipment in the United States, we
take great pride in announcing that we now have one of
the finest equipped factories for the production of high
class scientific Motographic Apparatus in America, and we
have built our reputation entirely on the merit,
superiority and practicability of our products.
Our reputation as Scientific Camera Manufacturers has
caused a demand for a guaranteed motion Picture Camera
which is extremely portable, simple in operation, durable
and moderate in price.
Our
"Cub Special" camera will take pictures of
detail and brilliancy which will compare favorably with
the best on the market.
It is equipped with a Zeiss Tessar f3.5 -50mm Lens in
a special focusing mount, and the round aluminum
magazines have a film capacity of two hundred feet each.
An important feature is the side focusing device which
allows the operator to focus direct upon the film at the
aperture.
A very unique and practical lens or exposure chart is
attached to the front board of the camera, and will
enable the amateur to make correct exposures, as in
addition to have the diaphragm opening indicator with the
usual numbers, it has a brass plate, and the opening can
be set in accordance with the condition of the weather.
For instance, if the weather is very bright, the lens
arrow can be set to the point marked very bright. If the
weather is moderate or dull, all that is necessary is to
set the arrow at the point so marked. This plate also,
has a separate arrow which can be set to the number of
feet the object stands from the camera, thereby enabling
the operator to adjust his lens very quickly. The side
focusing device can also be used if desired."
Boy,
who could pass up a sales pitch like that?
The camera is 10 1/2 inches long, 5 1/2 inches wide
and 6 1/2 inches high. It weighs 10 1/2 pounds.
This camera has stamped in the front brass plate
"COPYRIGHT 1916" and is in great condition.
Very little chipping of the color of the leather and the
leather is not dry and crumbly like so many cameras of
this age.
