Finding the proper set of gears to
run the camera both forwards and backwards, pull the film down one
frame at a time, take up and feed film, and dissolve the shutter was
an incredible feat of engineering. This had to be done in a completely
unique and patentable way in order to avoid other manufacturer's
patented film transports. Moy & Bastie had to reinvent the movie wheel
to be able to manufacture this camera. They did an incredible job with
this mechanical marvel. First Patented in 1909.
